Health minister intervention set to solve pay dispute
An intervention from the New Zealand health minister appears to have solved a pay dispute between senior doctors and the district health boards (DHB) in the country.

The Association of Salaried Medical Specialists (ASMS) has revealed that ballots will be sent out to doctors, recommending that they accept the offer on the table.

Minister of health David Cunliffe said: "The provisional settlement represents the best we have been able to scratch out of a very difficult and protracted negotiating process."

He added that the National Executive does have some misgivings with it but the provisional settlement includes beneficial gains and a "springboard for the future" in terms of recruitment and retention.

Details of the agreement have not been released by the ASMS until all members of the union have received their ballots.

The ASMS is a professional association and union for doctors and dentists in New Zealand which aims to improve healthcare in the country.
