Doctors to make decision over strike action Senior doctors in New Zealand are set to make a decision on strike action over pay and employee reward tomorrow.
The senior doctors' union, Association of Salaried Medical Specialists (ASMS), and the district health board employers have been locked in talks for the past 19 months and it appears the issue is now likely to come to a conclusion.
A final decision on the strike action will be made tomorrow and if it does go ahead, 2,800 could walk out of their jobs in late April.
Ian Powell, the ASMS executive director, told NZPA that regardless of what industrial action is taken, emergency cases will still be looked after.
He also described the latest pay offer from the district health board employers as "inadequate".
It is thought that the doctors want a pay increase of ten per cent over the next two years.
The ASMS is a professional union for salaried doctors and dentists in New Zealand.
Over 500 ground staff took part in a strike which resulted in heavy disruptions to flights in and out of Hong Kong after employee benefits were halved, it has been reported.
