Teachers in Australia are set to strike in the near future, according to reports.

Those belonging to Technical and Further Education (TAFE) are considering walking out when term starts again next week after the summer break, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Assistant general secretary of the TAFE Teachers Association Phil Bradley told the news source that industrial action could be taken over budget cuts.

Classes could be disrupted as strikes involving 24-hour walkouts are being discussed by the organisation.

However, Mr Bradley suggested that the quality of education in the country is in jeopardy under government proposals to restructure the qualification to teach at TAFE.

Furthermore, the association is against plans to increase student fees by nine per cent later this year.
